What Is Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy?

Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy, also known as RSD or CRPS, is not a well understood medical condition. RSD is fairly uncommon and the exact medical mechanisms are the subject of argument among experts. That said, the condition is most commonly seen in people who have recently sustained some type of traumatic injury. Strange but true, the traumatic injury usually appears minor at first. Trauma can arise in car accidents, construction accidents, falls—any trauma which can cause injury can cause RSD.

Symptoms of RSD can include:

  • Severe burning pain
  • Extreme sensitivity to even light touch (allodynia)
  • Swelling around the site of the injury
  • Discoloration of the skin
  • Excessive sweating or dryness of skin
  • Changes in skin temperature and color,
  • joint tenderness or stiffness,
  • restricted or painful movement,
  • changes in the nails on the affected limb

Different patients will have different combinations of signs and symptoms.

The key to recovering compensation for RSD sufferers is being able to prove that the condition is directly related to the accident. At Plattner Verderame, PC you'll have attorneys who have proven their ability to do just that.
