Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

Justice for Traumatic Brain Injury Victims

Everyone knows when there has been a severe brain injury – the victim is (or was) in a coma. But even "mild" or "moderate" brain injury usually causes severe changes in the lives of the victim and her family.

And you don't have to have been in a violent accident to suffer brain damage. Even a seemingly minor impact car crash or fall can permanently injure the brain. Most people make a good recovery from a concussion – but for the unlucky person whose injury won't heal there is no consolation to know that they "should have" gotten better.

Another traumatic brain injury misconception involves the idea that "when you have one you'll know it." Not true. The extent of any kind of brain trauma may take months to fully reveal itself. One of the insidious effects of TBI is that victims often can't perceive that they've changed in any way. And most doctors are sadly ignorant about TBI's serious changes in personality, mood and behavior, or the way such changes can devastate relationships at home or work. As a result, "mild" TBI often goes undiagnosed and untreated, and the damage is amplified.

At Plattner Verderame, P.C., we have been getting juries in Arizona and across the United States to connect those same dots in brain injury cases since 1991. Our experience means that you'll be working with a team of lawyers who understand the medical, physical, economic and psychological impact a brain injury can have on the victim. Our refusal to take on any cases we don't strongly believe in means that here you'll get the personal attention you deserve as well. Tell us what happened.

Brain Injury Causes

Brain injuries come from many causes, but statistically are most often associated with motor vehicle wrecks and falling accidents. To learn more about the specific types of accidents or negligence, please see the following pages:

The Effects of a Traumatic Brain Injury

The effects of TBI can range from subtle and mild to pronounced and severe. "Milder" effects include cognitive problems such as difficulty with thought processing, memory loss, inattentiveness, inability to concentrate, reduced ability to tolerate frustration, depression, and severe mood swings. More severe effects include the loss of certain bodily functions and coma. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that even "mild" brain injury can destroy a marriage or cost someone a career.

As a law firm, we are able connect our clients and their families with the medical care providers, rehabilitation facilities and support resources needed to address these challenging injuries and to prove the extent of harm in court.
