What To Do After a Dog Attack

Taking Action After a Dog Attack

After a dog attack, the most important concern is the health and safety of the victim. Getting appropriate medical care and attention for the victim is the first priority.

Less than two percent of Arizona attorneys have been certified as Specialists in Personal Injury and Wrongful Death Litigation by the Arizona Bar Association Board of Legal Specialization. Among the five attorneys at Plattner Verderame, P.C., that number is 100 percent. Get the experience and skill you need to obtain justice. Tell us about the attack and learn more about your legal rights and options.

What Else Should You Do?

In addition to seeking medical attention, there are a few other actions you should take after a dog attack. These include:

  • Ask for the dog owner's driver's license, name, address and phone number (and for the same information from the person who had control of the dog at the time of the attack if the owner was not present)
  • Call your local police and animal control office and ask them to make a report
  • Take pictures of the victim's wounds and clothing (before and after receiving medical treatment)
  • Write down whatever you remember (Were there any witnesses? What were their names? What did the dog look like? Did it appear to be a dangerous breed? Were there any distinctive markings? Was the dog on a leash? Did there appear to be license tags on the dog?)

At Plattner Verderame, P.C., we provide the kind of experienced legal care and attention that dog bite victims need to get a fair shake in our civil justice system. As our client, you'll have a team of professionals working with you and for you from beginning to end. We'll stay in close contact with you, return your calls promptly and keep you involved with what's happening as the case moves forward.
