Tragic truck-motorcycles crash in Phoenix

Enormous trucks are capable of causing enormous harm when their drivers are careless or fatigued or if poor maintenance causes safety systems -- like brakes -- to fail when most needed.  On 3/25/10 north of Phoenix on Carefree Highway a truck slammed into eight motorcycles stopped for a traffic signal.  Three motorcycle drivers are dead, more are injured.  Crash-site photos may be seen at http://www.azcentral.com/commphotos/azcentral/14118/14/29.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation  -- but it's hard to imagine excuses for plowing into folks who are properly stopped in traffic.
