The driver of a motorized scooter was pronounced dead on the scene after running into the back of a parked UPS semitruck and then being struck by oncoming traffic near Eighth Avenue and Country Club Drive, according to officials.

The scooter was traveling south on Country Club when it struck the semitruck, which was parked halfway on the sidewalk and halfway on the street, said Detective Steven Berry of the Mesa Police Department.

The impact sent the scooter into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a Chevrolet pickup truck.

There is no indication of alcohol or any other form of intoxication involved.
